Michael Pittas has graduated the National Technical University of Athens in 1986. Till 1989 he worked as an associated engineer to well-known consultancy companies in Greece being involved in a numerous projects of restoration and retrofitting of traditional listed buildings and monuments. From 1989 to 1996 he runs his own consultancy office in the field of structural engineering and management of works in Greece and from 1994 he opens his own office in Cyprus, where he moved his base permanently since 2000. The activities include structural engineering studies and supervision, project management and cost control of new projects from any construction material, retrofitting of old buildings, restoration and retrofitting of old conventional buildings and traditional buildings and monuments. In parallel with the consultancy work he participates in committees representing the Technical Chamber of Cyprus or the Civil Engineers Association, i.e. regarding the Euronorms, both for the regulations on structural analysis and for materials and as an expert in technical disputes. He was member of the board and Vise president of the Icomos-Cyprus Section for 4 terms and he is a member of the Iscarsah (Icomos Scientific Committee for the Analysis and Restoration of Structures of Architectural heritage) since 2004. He presented lectures in several local and international conferences and seminars on restoration of monuments and traditional structures. During his carrier he carried out studies and supervision for a lot of traditional buildings and monuments in Cyprus, Greece and other countries in the Middle East. Some of the important monuments are the Hala Sultan Tekke, the Ottoman Baths, the Fortifications of Famagusta (Othello Tower, Martinengo and Ravelin Bastions, the sea Wall), the Monastery of Ayios Pantleiomonas and numerous Churches and buildings in Cyprus, the Chamber of Fine Arts, the Old English Hospital of Corfu, the Old French School at Crete and numerous buildings in Greece, Beit Sibai, Beit Nisam and Beit Qwuatly, three Palaces of the World Heritage In the old city of Damascus.
